Life Patterns brings together mixed media wall works created from shibori-dyed papers, dyed, stitched, layered, and mounted into dimensional compositions. The series reflects on inner patterning, repair, devotion, relationship, and the visible traces of lived experience.
This series reflects an ongoing exploration of the patterns that shape a life - visible and invisible, chosen and inherited. The work is grounded in an authentic process of building, disrupting, and reworking layered surfaces.
Each piece begins with papers hand-dyed by Susan using shibori techniques. Color, mark-making, and repetition form the base language, moving between control and release, structure and fracture.
Susan’s background in couture informs a focus on detail. Metallic stitching, vintage sequins, and quartz crystal beads are used selectively to create points of tension, rhythm, and light.
Soul Mates anchors the series, pointing to connection as a stabilizing force within complexity, while the broader body of work remains open and interpretive.
The canvases are left unframed. Raw edges resist containment - physically and conceptually. The surface remains active.
